Baby Gorilla gets better at the Zoo Safari Park in San Diego

A gorilla gave birth to a baby on 12th of March. She was unable to have a normal delivery and hence had to undergo a caesarian section to have the baby out safely. The zoo conducted such a procedure for a mother gorilla for the first time in its History. The newborn had to go through an emergency surgery as he had a collapsed lung. She was then treated for pneumonia as well.

Although the initial days of her life were not good and remembering, the young gorilla at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park is not healthy and living a good life, as stated by the zookeepers.

The little gorilla is now named Joanne – the name of the Foundation of San Diego Zoo Global’s first chairwoman. The baby is now learning well from her mother and gaining knowledge about how to survive in the world.

The mother gorilla’s name is Imani and when she gave birth to Joanne, she was 18, which was an older age for a gorilla to be a mother for the first time. Due to her old age, she had a few medical challenges as well. The zookeepers were very much worried about the fact that she did not have the required maternal impulse. This led to the decision of having the delivery done by C-section.

Right after the delivery, the mother and the daughter have developed a strong bonding, according to the zookeepers. Joanne doesn’t wish to leave her mother even for a moment and is always seen climbing on her back as the mother moves around the exhibit.

Joanne is not on sold goods, yet is chewing different greens like kale as well as lettuce. At the moment, she has six teeth developed.

Currently, the park has 8 gorillas.
