First death takes place due to Ebola, one of the deadliest viruses, in Nigeria, the most populous city in Africa. Right after the first patient died due to Ebola virus in Nigeria, the hospital where his death took place has been evacuated as well as quarantined. This is stated as the first reported case to reach this city.
On 20th July, Patrick Sawyer, a Liberian finance ministry consultant, died right after his flight landed at the airport of Lagos. He died while being treated at First Consultants Hospital. It was clearly stated by the officials that he died due to Ebola virus, which made people aware about its spreading in the city. The health officials then stated that the nurses as well as the doctors that came into contact with Sawyer have also been isolated and are currently being monitored.
Jide Idris, Lagos state health commissioner, said, “The private hospital was demobilized (evacuated) and the primary source of infection eliminated.”
Right after this case, the number of cases of Ebola continues to rise in Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia, where more than 1,200 people have been infected, according to the reports of World Health Organization.
