Recently, a report has been presented to the consumers, to create awareness in pregnant ladies that they must avoid eating tuna, as it may lead to harmful effects on the birth of the baby.
The study states that some seafood contains mercury in high levels which can pose a danger for conceiving mothers. One of the doctors from the research team – Dr. Michael Crupain said; “Mercury can damage the brain and it can damage the nervous system, especially when that exposure occurs in the womb.”
However, it seems that the agency is in favor of the risks involved. According to a statement recorded by the agency; “Avoiding fish during pregnancy in favor of omega-3 supplements means that you would be missing out on many other important nutrients contained in fish that are required for overall health.”
The FDA is confident of their statement, as they experimented by picking 20 fish, those can be eaten at several intervals of a day, without the fear of exposure to mercury.
Till the time, a clear picture is presented as to which community is speaking the truth, it is better to take precautions about too much of intake of tuna.
