AAP suggested, that the kids may start brushing their teeth, at the age of 3, by using a toothpaste at the size of rice. The size may be increased to the size of a pea when they turn 6. It is advisable that the parents put the toothpaste on their kid’s toothbrush and help them in brushing the teeth well.
It is also recommended that the kids must not undergo fluoride rinses, by the dentists till they reach 6. This is because there is always a risk of the kids swallowing more level of fluoride, which would be not recommended for the kids.
However, rather than the fluoride rinse, regular brushing of teeth will prevent tooth decay. AAP stated that fluoride is effective in preventing decays in the teeth amongst children. Tooth decay is the most common problem in the United States, and the health officials believe that this measure shall help in reducing the number of patients visit at dental clinics.
AAP has been successful in creating awareness amongst people, about the benefits of brushing teeth at an early age and hope to continue achieving the same success in the times ahead.
