The researchers have studied that proper family meals can protect the kids from the effects of cyberbullying. The report states that a regular family meal, helps kids spend quality time with their family, which in return builds the social nature of the child, thereby improving their well-being.
The author of this study and report; Professor Frank Elgar said; “Many adolescents use social media, and online harassment and abuse are difficult for parents and educators to monitor, so it is critical to identify protective factors for youths who are exposed to cyberbullying.”
The study is published in the Paediatrics journal named – JAMA. The researchers also observed that these adolescents who have no families, or families who are working and have little time for family meals together, are at a higher risk of effects of cyberbullying.
The researchers also commented; “The results are promising, but we do not want to oversimplify what we observed. Many adolescents do not have regular family meals but, receive support in other ways, like to share breakfasts, or the morning school run.”
