The spacecraft named – MOM, launched by India, finally achieved success in reaching Mars. The news is a major turn in Asia’s history, as India would be the first Asian country to have completed this journey to the red planet.
The Prime Minister of India – Mr. Narendra Modi, joined the Space Research team at the Headquarters in Bangalore, to celebrate this historic event. The PM expressed his happiness by sharing; “shining symbol of what [India is] capable of as a nation.”
Many school students were also encouraged to gather at the school early, and watch the unforgettable event on the state television collectively. MOM stands for ‘The Mars Orbiter Mission’ and was invented at a cost of less than $74 million. The same mission costed NASA over $670 million.
A journey to Mars has been a challenging phase for all the countries who tried and several attempts were made by many. Amongst the Asian countries, Japan and China already made an attempt in 1999 and 2012 respectively. However, India has been the winner in this competition to succeed other Asian countries.
