Lebanon has seen some turmoil, especially in the Syrian border in the recent past. As a matter of fact, there was fierce fighting in August between the Lebanese army and Islamist militants who came in from Syria. The fighting finally ended after the local religious leaders brokered a truce between the two sides. However, the militants still took 30 army and police personnel as hostages with them.

The chaos in Syria is affecting Lebanon as well as there is a sharp division between the Shiites and Sunnis living in the country regarding the ongoing war in Syria.
