According to sources, a roadside bomb blast injured three soldiers from the Lebanon army. The bomb struck an army vehicle while it was passing. The blast occurred in the Syrian border in a town named Arsel. Right after the blast a group of gunmen started firing on the troops and the army retaliated.
The blast occurred at 9.00 am local time and the vehicle was patrolling the town at that time. One of the wounded was an officer. The injuries suffered by all three men were minor. No group has as yet claimed responsibility for the blast and the gunmen were unidentified as well.
Lebanon has seen some turmoil, especially in the Syrian border in the recent past. As a matter of fact, there was fierce fighting in August between the Lebanese army and Islamist militants who came in from Syria. The fighting finally ended after the local religious leaders brokered a truce between the two sides. However, the militants still took 30 army and police personnel as hostages with them.
The chaos in Syria is affecting Lebanon as well as there is a sharp division between the Shiites and Sunnis living in the country regarding the ongoing war in Syria.
