5 Tribals killed while protesting against Bodo militants’ attack

The Assam Bodo militents situation got much worse on Wednesday as five tribals protesting against the massacre of 62 people by Bodo’s were killed in police firing. The initial reports suggest that the tribals torched the houses belonging to the Bodos in Phuloguri region which comes under the Bishwanath Chariali police station in Sonitpur district.

The tea garden workers also joined the protests as they carried out protest rallies and were armed with bow and arrows. In order to make their protest successful they even blocked the seven-km stretch of National Highway 15 was blocked near Dhekiajuli in Sonitpur. These incidents have been very upsetting and the Home Minister Rajnath Singh is expected to visit the affected areas later on Wednesday and assess the situation. The Chief Minister of Assam TarunGogoi has assured that all help will be provided to deal with this situation.

The militants of the Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) started firing indiscriminately on Tuesday and killed 40 people on the spot. Medical and military assistance is being given to Assam on the request of the ruling government. Nearly 5000 paramilitary personnel are being rushed to the affected areas to contain the situation.
