UN Secures Pledge to Free 3000 South Sudan Child Soldiers

The United Nations has secured a pledge for the release of about 3000 child soldiers in South Sudan, it`s been called “one of the largest ever demobilization of children.”

South Sudan`s oil production has risen by about 9,000 barrels per day to 169,000 barrels per day from December last year. The minister of petroleum said that the majority of production was taking place in the upper Nile state but didn`t state why it was rising in this area.

South Sudan released 280 child soldiers from South Sudan Democratic army (SSDA) Cobra Faction, a former rebel group based in Jonglei state, said the United Nations on Tuesday.

South Sudanese rebel leader and former vice-president Rieck Marchar has held a meeting with Kenyan president Uhuru Kenyatta, said a rebel officer on Tuesday. Marchar and Kenyatta discussed the ongoing political turmoil in South Sudan and option for moving forward with the stalled peace process.

Five journalists have been killed in the State of South Sudan in the attack waged against them in Bahr EL-Ghazal State. The Sudanese Organisation of Press Freedom condemns it.

11 people were killed and many were injured in an ambush in South Sudan`s Western Bahr el Ghazal state on Saturday.
