20 Labourers Killed in Pakistan: Suspected Separatists Act

Officials stated that 20 workers were killed by gunmen early this Saturday in the Turbat District, Baluchistan Province in South- Western Pakistan. The attack is suspected to be carried out by the Baluch separatists who are trying to gain complete control of the province.

Baluchistan contributes to over 44 percent of Pakistan and is rich in gas and mineral deposits. Baluch separatist organisation has been in operation for few decades now and has involved in violence to control the gas and mineral rich province.

Imran Qureshi, a top official in Turbat confirmed by phone that the 20 men killed were labourers and they were working on a bridge connecting a national highway and Turbat.

The worker’s camp was attacked by the unidentified gunmen between 2 and 3 am. They overpowered the security on guard and opened fire on the sleeping labourers. 20 were killed and the 3 wounded have been admitted in the government hospital nearby.

Mr. Qureshi confirmed that all those killed are from the Sindh province.

President Mamnoon Hussain in the official statement condemned this inhuman act and stated that the whole nation is united in the fight against terrorism.

Nawaz Baloch, local police stated that there has been no claim of responsibility but, it could be the act of Baluch separatists as they have earlier carried out similar killings.
