According to the monitoring group, the ancient city of Palmyra in Syria had been captured by the Islamic State militants. It had led the world heritage site and its priceless arte-facts at the risk of destruction.
As said by Rami Abdurrahman, Britain based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights; the militants had taken the full control over the archaeological site to the south west of the city soon after midnight.
After seizing the Ramadi an Iraqi city over the weekend, Palmyra was been captured the same day by the Islamic State which also known as ISIS and ISIL.
It is said to be the first time that IS had taken full control over a city directly controlled by the Syrian army.
As per the monitoring group, at least 100 Assad fighters had lost their lives in clashes between the jihadists and Syrian government forces.
Also vast majority of Raqqa province is in control of ISIS, its de facto capital, most of Deir Ezzor, parts of Hassakeh and the Aleppo countryside, most of the desert of Syria and also the parts of the Homs countryside and the Yarmouk refugee camp in southern Damascus.
