According to the reporters, a Polish owned cargo vessel off the Nigerian coast had been attacked by the pirates. They had also abducted the captain of the ship and the four crew members, as said by the authorities of Polish.
This incident Is said to be the first documented incident of its kind in almost a year in some of the deadliest shipping lanes on the earth.
As reported, armed men in two boats, had boarded the Cyprus registered Szafir overnight. They had looted the 10,000 ton container ship. As said by the operator Euro Africa.
The kidnappers had not yet been identified and they had made no demands so far and Poland had been liaising with Nigerian authorities, its foreign Minister Witold Waszczykowski told a news conference in Warsaw on Friday.
As said by Waszczykowski, “The rest of the crew, 11 people are still on the ship and they are safe, the ship had suffered some damage.”
With the operator arranging for a new crew to take the ship back to port, Reuters had reported that the ship is now being anchored around 30 sea miles off the Nigerian coast.
