With an overall score of 4.1 in nine different categories Thailand ranked 21st out of the 60 countries in the list. In the country ranking conducted by US News & World Report, Thailand made it to the Top 10 in 4 Major Categories: 4th place in Movers; 4th place in Adventure; 8th place in Heritage; and 10th place in Open for Business.
Aside from these rankings, Thailand was also the top Millennials Pick for economic potential. Thailand ranked #6 on the Best Countries to Invest and the Millennials Pick for dating Millennials Women.
For the ranking of the ASEAN countries, Thailand tails Singapore which was 15th in the said ranking. Vietnam is at #32, Philippines at #33, and Indonesia at #42.
Based on the overall rankings, the Best Country is Germany. It grabbed the top spot because it encourages entrepreneurship and it is notable for taking care of its citizens and providing opportunities for global leadership.
The 2016 ranking for Best Countries has been conducted in collaboration with Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and BAV Consulting, a brand strategy firm.
There were over 16,000 individuals asked from four regions to identify a country with particular attributes. Thailand was the top choice for business startups but only the 26th for the ideal location for a headquarters.
The best countries for establishing a headquarters has been ranked based on the scores given by over 4,000 key business personnel based on the aggregate score on nine country attributes with equal weights. Some factors are: population literacy, stable economic conditions, corruption, connection to other parts of the world and a friendly tax environment. Canada topped this category despite its 26% corporate income tax rate.
Thailand’s current tax rate for corporations is at 20%. Relative to this ranking, Maj Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd, the government’s spokesperson, commented that efforts will be made to resolve conflicts that could be in the way of the nation’s growth.
He added that the Prime Minister is grateful for the public’s efforts to cooperate in ensuring peace and order in the country and at the same time drive Thailand’s international acceptance.
