According to the reporters, nine homes had been raided by the Belgian police and had detained 10 people in Brussels as part of an investigation in to an Islamic State recruitment network, as said by a spokesman for the federal prosecutor`s office on Tuesday.
The arrests took place in the Brussels neighborhoods of Etterbeek, Koekelberg, Molenbeek and Schaerbeek. The base for the several men involved in the Paris terrorist attacks of November 13 was Molenbeek. In this attack, not less than 130 people had lost their lives and dozens had been detained in Molenbeek over the past three months as the authorities continue their investigation in to that assault, the deadliest in the Western Europe since 2004.
As said by the spokesman, Thierry Werts, that the network which the raids targeted was not directly connected with the Paris attacks.
Mr. Werts said that most of the persons among the detained are suspected of having sent people to Syria. He also said using an acronym for the Islamic State, which is also known as ISIL,” Some of them have gone to Syria themselves to fight under ISIS and have returned.”
